The BBC has announced that it will continue its Ten Pieces initiative, which is designed to encourage school children to explore classical music, with two special Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall on July 23 and 24. 

Following the success of last year's Ten Pieces Prom, this year secondary school students will have the opportunity to perform at the Proms alongside conductor Alpesh Chauhan and the BBC Philharmonic.

Students are encouraged to respond creatively to each of the classical works included in the Ten Pieces for Secondary Schools project (listed here) whether it be through composing a new piece of music, or through dance, art or poetry. Schools are invited to upload their creative responses to the Ten Pieces website (www.bbc.co.uk/tenpieces) by March 24 in order to be considered for inclusion in the Proms concerts. Responses received after this date (up to May 27) will also be posted online by the BBC in the Ten Pieces Showcase.

Nicola Benedetti, Ten Pieces Ambassador, said: 'I am so hugely honoured to be involved in the BBC Ten Pieces project. I am quite sure it will be exciting and enriching for all children, but above all it is highly educational and substantive. This is something you cannot miss!'
